The CityLife project in Milan
CityLife is a project for the redevelopment of the historic Milan Trade Fair district which has brought new life to an area of about 255,000 m2, converting the original trade fair zone to areas equipped for general use within a large public park and involving urban residential, commercial and trade functions. Several great icons of world architecture, Zaha Hadid, Arata Isozaki and Daniel Libeskind were involved in the project.
In particular, Daniel Libeskind designed, in addition to one of the three towers used for offices, a residential complex consisting of eight buildings distributed over two areas. The design investigates the classic schema typology of the open court through a personal reflection on segmentation and the reassembly of volumes. He presents a harmonious relationship between the buildings and the reference context, between the constructions, the service areas and the large green areas that surround and re-qualify the entire settlement.
Thanks to engineering choices aimed at constructive solutions of the highest quality and the sophisticated façade system, the Libeskind Residences ensure the highest standards of energy efficiency. As a result, they were awarded a class A certification. A feature of the Libeskind style which stands out in particular is the façade solution, thanks to an excellent combination of ceramic materials by Casalgrande Padana and of the various Profilpas profiles which enrich the plasticity of the structure.
Profilpas profiles in the Libeskind Residences
Profilpas actively contributed to achieving the quality objectives and pre-set capabilities by providing both the multiple profiles for the realisation of interior fittings for the common parts of the buildings designed by Libeskind and a product for the external façades and balconies able to carry out terminal functions and at the same time to follow its sinuous and irregular lines.
This particular profile, article ZG/22.5, fully satisfied the requirements of the design studio, both in terms of technical features and of finishes. The profile has a powder coating which perfectly matches the floor finish by Casalgrande Padana made specifically for this project. In addition, the installation by Frattini under the supervision of Franco Agnese was optimally performed, the realisation of a project that proved to be very complex, not only in the choice of materials, but also in their production and use.
